Religious Education

Passing on the Roman Catholic Faith is the primary focus of all religious education.

  • Sunday School is a dynamic way the parish transmits the Faith to youngsters from Kindergarten to 8th Grade from 9:30-10:30 am. Assistance is always welcome. 
  • First Reconciliation/First Eucharist is a special program for Grade 2 children.
  • Confirmation is for students who have completed 8th Grade Religious Education.

Music Ministry

Our Music Ministry leads the congregation in song at each Mass. Our ministry is comprised of four diverse groups:

  • The Traditional Choir sings at the 8:30 am Mass. Rehearsals are Wednesdays at 6:30 pm in the Church.
  • The Trinity Choir sings at the 11:00 am Mass on the third Sunday of each month. Rehearsals are on the Tuesday previous to the third Sunday.
  • The Children's Choir sings on the first Sunday of each month from October through May. Rehearsals are on Thursdays at 3:15 pm at St. Gabriel School. Participation is open to all second through eighth grade students.
  • The Contemporary Ensemble, under the direction of George Bepko, provides music at the 11 am Mass on the fourth Sunday of each month.

Rosary Society

All women are welcome! Gatherings are on occasion and announced in the bulletin and in this space when scheduled. For more information, contact Shirley Weaver at 203-874-5489.

Eucharistic Adoration

Thursdays from 9:00AM to 3:00PM from September through April. The Blessed Sacrament is exposed and adored by volunteers who sign up for one hour or more to pray before the Lord Jesus present in the Monstrance.

Finance Council

Advises the Pastor on financial matters of the parish and school. Responsible for monitoring all income and expenses, and approving the annual budgets.

Offertory Counters

A group that counts the funds collected at Mass each week. Each group volunteers about once a month.

Parish Pastoral Council

The Parish Pastoral Council assists the pastor in decision making and is involved in planning all activities and programs affecting the life of St. Gabriel Parish.  

Senior Altar Servers & Choir

Men and women who assist at Funeral Masses to enhance the worship of our faith community. To volunter contact or call 203-640-9427.

Stations of the Cross

Held Friday evenings at 6:30 PM in the Church during Lent often followed by soup and sharing in the parish hall.


Volunteers welcome and assist people to their seat if necessary. They also take up the collection.  Email Bill Simonetti to volunteer.

Blue Mantle

Knitters meet each Monday in the Ministry Center Conference Room at 7:00 pm under the watchful eye of Our Lady in BLue to knit shawls for cancer victims, baby blankets, hats and mittens, onesies for babies of single parents, special items for families in need. Mission Board

Plans fundraising events for our "sister parish" - St. Brendan, Kitete, Tanzania. Also sets up visiting exchanges with priests and parishioners from St. Brendan to St. Gabriel and vice versa.   Meetings are held three times yearly and are announced in the parish bulletin.  Call Jane Holler 203-376-3283 or



Liturgy Committee

Assistance is welcome! Meetings are held every month to help plan for the liturgical seasons. 

Little Rock Bible Study 

Adults are welcome. "Introduction to Bible Study on Thursdays 9:30 am or 7:30 pm in the Ministry Center Conference Room.  Ongoing groups meet 9:30 am and 7:30 pm on Wednesdays in the Ministry Center Conference room. Contact Business Office 203-877-6096

Baptism Preparation

Preparing parents for the sacrament and formation of their child’s faith. Call Business Office203-877-6096 to set up pre-baptismal class.  Baptisms on 1st Sunday of the month at 1:00 pm.  

Eucharistic Minister

Extraordinary Ministers of Communion who serve the Body and Blood of Christ at Mass and to the sick and homebound. Contact Patricia Pritchard 203-892-4024 or

Fellowship Committee

Volunteers who coordinate social activities and gatherings of parishioners during the year.

Flowers and Grounds

Volunteers who care for and beautify the grounds and church. Call Bill Weirether at 203-783-9082 to volunteer.

Liturgical Linen Service

Responsible for the preparation and care of the altar linens. This includes the washing and ironing of purificators, corporals, and altar linens. Contact Joan Kell at 203-878-6614 to volunteer.

RCIA (Catechumenate)

Rite of Christian Initiation – preparation of adult candidates for Catholic sacraments. Next session begins Sunday, September 7,2014 and succeeding Sundays after the 8:15 am Mass. Contact Br. Larry Lussier, CSC at 203-877 

Evangelization Outreach

The parish reaches out to the unbaptized and uncatechized as well as to inactive Catholics to call them to active participation in the Faith.  Information Nights are held twice year to offer the parish's resources to assist them to either become Catholics in full communion with the Church or enter a process to assist inactive Catholics to return to the Faith.  


Duties include preparing the altar for Mass and cleaning the altar following Mass.

Parish Social Ministries (PSM)

Facilitating Gospel justice and peace in our city, state, country, world via local action in pro-life, economic, food pantry, environment, health either through advocacy, direct service, hands-on service.  Ministries under PSM:

Each year on the 1st  Saturday of May from 7 am - 4 pm parish volunteers assist a Milford homeowner who cannot afford to pay for labor or repairs to keep their home warm, safe and dry. Using email or letters parishioners contact legislators, op ed editors or leadership persons to voice their concerns regarding climate change, healthcare issues, family life and pro-life.  To volunteer as an advocate contact Business Office 203-877-6096
